Last week, the UN Secretary-General’s Task Force on Digital Finance released their report “The People’s Money: Harnessing Digitalization to Finance a Sustainable Future”.
The report findings presents the importance of embracing the transformative potential of digital solutions for the creation of a of a citizen-centric financial system, acceleration of the financing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and enabling access to financial services to unbanked entrepreneurs and SMEs. It further highlights that throughout the Covid-19 crisis- from digital payments, to educational platforms, online delivery of food items, and government cash transfer- the impact of digitalization can not be understated.
Looking forward, it advocates for inclusive international governance of digital financing solutions and increased international cooperation as well as the “leapfrogging” of less developed countries to move advanced digital financial arrangements.
