Earlier this year, our new team member Qusai joined hiveonline as Full Stack Developer. Bringing great knowledge, experience and humour, we would like to introduce you to Qusai Alfaki!
Hi Q! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I am from Sudan and I have lived in so many places, including Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Israel, Uganda, Kenya.
What is your previous work experience?
I have worked in so many industries… I was working from the age of 12, I had the privilege of gaining lots of experiences and learn many valuable skills. I have over 5 years of software development experience. I have participated in so many projects varying in purposes, but the ones that always got me more involved were the projects that directly impacted and made a difference to people’s lives.
What is your educational background?
I studied Mechanical Engineering in Tel Aviv, Israel, and worked with that for a few years before deciding to follow something I am more passionate about. That’s how my journey in software development started!
Do you have any hobbies?
24 hours a day is not enough for me… there are so many things I’d love to do but there is such little time! Some of the things I enjoy doing are reading, learning new things, playing music, working out, cycling (as an outdoor activity), making new friends…the list goes on 🙂
Name one or several of your unexpected skills
Dancing, singing, acting, drawing, story telling…
Who do you most admire and why?
Marcus Garvey, he had a vision that was far greater than himself. He made black people feel proud of themselves during a time when being black was a “curse”, many people don’t know what Marcus did and how things developed during his time. He was able to change perspectives, many African countries were “tickled” (inspired) by what he did which later on led to mature demands of independence and self governance.
What is your favourite book and why?
‘The Kite Runner’ by Khaled Hosseini. The relationships were described so well, the emotions were invested in and the plot twists were well thought of.
And finally, why working at a start-up that focuses on impact outcomes is important to you?
Start-ups are dynamic and have lots of room for growth and I am all about growth. I find helping others fulfilling and it gives meaning to life, after all you come to life with nothing and you leave with nothing, but what you do lives forever.
We hope you enjoyed hearing from Qusai, and stay tuned to see the work he will be contributing to hiveonline!
